Exhibitor’s Echo
“Hape has been famous for producing wooden educational toys. In recent years, we have diversified our product range by using plastics to produce educational toys because plastics allow varied designs and the production cost for plastic toys is relatively lower than that for wooden toys. The Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair provides an ideal platform for us to promote our brand and showcase our new products to our existing and potential distributors. At this year’s fair, we are happy to have met with two potential distributors from Myanmar and New Caledonia which are new markets to our company. In addition, we have received some onsite orders from our existing distributors. Some buyers from kindergartens in Hong Kong have also expressed their interest in buying our educational toys. We are optimistic about our toys business because the demand for STEM or STREAM toys from parents and schools has been steady.”
Andrew Ng, General Manager, Hape International (Hong Kong) Ltd,, Hong Kong (Booth: 1E-C02)

“Threezero was founded in 2000 by Kim Fung Wong, who is one of the leading original brand manufacturers in Hong Kong’s toys industry. In 2008, we started to produce collectible figures which feature weathering effect. We focus on developing licensed collectible figures based on characters from films, TV series and animations such as Transformer, Rambo, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. We are exhibiting at the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair for the first time because we want to sell our figures to different corners of the world through the fair. Before the opening of the fair, we were worried that buyer attendance might be affected by social events in Hong Kong. At the fair, many buyers have visited our booth and we are excited to have met with new buyers from France, Japan, Mainland China, Mexico, Russia, Spain and the US who are keen to be our distributors. Buyers’ responses have been overwhelming. We’ll be back next year.
Ken T.C. Kwok, Chief Operating Officer, Threezero (HK) Ltd, Hong Kong (Booth: 3E-E09)

Hot Picks by Media Experts

Christopher Byrne, The Toy Guy®
The Toy Book/Children’s Technology Review, USA
The sign at the entrance to the fairground says, “level up,” and those two words perfectly describe the 2020 Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair. Walking the aisles on opening day, the level of design and sophistication in all categories was impressive, as is the emphasis on value and play.

STEM and STREAM continue to be a driving force in the industry. The Stem Wall from MasterKidz, a customisable, modular system that has seemingly endless ways to expand and adapt as kids attach different pieces to create art, projects, or almost anything they can imagine.
Masterkidz Learning Limited
(Booth: 1D-D20)

First-time exhibitor Catchup Toys Limited is showing three games that include a Spinning Spider skill-and-action game, and a card game, Loony Fish that comes with a light-up fish that reads the conductive ink on some of the cards. The ingenious gameplay requires luck, strategy and twists and turns to entertain young players.
Catchup Toys Limited
(Booth: 1B-A23, 1CON-1E)
Go Go Bird is likely to be one of the hits of the show. Develop by Hanwang, this is the AI company’s first toy and first time at the fair. It’s an R/C robotic bird that flies amazingly.
Hanwang Technology Co Ltd
(Booth: 1C-E38)

And these are only three of the toys I saw on day one! For an industry that demands—and thrives on—innovation, this is where to find it, and in more than two decades covering this show, it just gets more exciting every year!

Jörg Ludwig Meister, Toys Magazine
Germany
Toys encourage kids to learn how the ”real world“ works. They break down complex topics into understandable pieces. And they let kids use their own imagination, phantasy and strategies for problem solution. Without consequences - but with fun while trying, understanding and learning.

So it’s only natural that we find the “real world“ topics on the aisles of the show as well:

There are companies thinking about their eco footprint and the sustainability side of their goods. Vikingtoys is one of those companies. They use biobased PE for their injection molded toys. And the success shows that they are on the right track.
Company: Viking Toys AB
(Booth: 1D-B39)

Digital gaming is, of course, still a growing field on toys market. Kids are familiar with mobile devices from early age - and toy manufacturers like Playshifu understand quite well, how to combine digital content with physical play for kids at any age in an appealing way.
Company: Playshifu
(Booth: 1C-F21)

Educational content - often subsumed under the STREAM acronym - is still a major selling factor. Both for digital and physical toys. Kids love to find out how things work - and learn through play, the more fun the better. With its Junior Constructor line, Hape offers a great series of toys, teaching physics - especially mechanics, optics and magnetism.
Company: Hape International (Hong Kong) Limited
(Booth: 1E-C02)

“Bang Toys is an importer and distributor of all kinds of toys, with Argentina, Brazil and Mexico as its major markets. I have been to the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair for more than 10 times because it provides a perfect platform for me to source a great variety of toys at competitive prices, to find new products and to assess the latest product trends. I have found six potential suppliers of DIY toys, STEAM toys, slime, board games, inflatables and battery-operated ride-ons. I’ll place orders for all these items and my order quantity is 5,000 pieces per product. The toys market in Brazil is getting better this year, with educational toys being the most popular items. There are protests in Brazil from time to time, so the social events in Hong Kong do not affect my decision to visit the Hong Kong fair. Actually, I feel safe being in Hong Kong.”
Paulo de Tarso B. Hornos, Commercial Director, Bang Toys, Brazil

“Based in the Czech Republic, Pyro & Art is a wholesaler and retailer of fireworks and wooden toys. This is my first time visiting the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair to look for fireworks and wooden toys. The Fireworks zone provides a great variety of fireworks for me to choose from. Up till now, I have found one potential supplier of wooden toys and two potential suppliers of fireworks. With the help of the HKTDC business matching team, I’ll meet with two more wooden toy suppliers and four more fireworks suppliers. Each year, I buy at least US$500,000 worth of fireworks from different countries. As Mainland China is a major fireworks producer in the world, I plan to buy one container of fireworks from a reliable supplier that I have found at the fair. Despite the protests in Hong Kong, I eventually decided to visit the Hong Kong fair because it is a good place for sourcing fireworks. Now I find the city very safe, clean and tidy.”

“Kid’s Brasil is the biggest e-tailer of baby products in Brazil. We also operate 35 retail stores selling various items like baby fashion, feeding and nursery products and toys. This is my first visit to Hong Kong Baby Products Fair to find quality baby products. So far, I have found five new suppliers from Mainland China for feeding and nursery items. I like their quality and variety.  Orders are estimated at US$200,000 each. I am very satisfied with the results. This is a very good fair. Public demonstrations are not uncommon in Brazil. Everything has been relatively calm here.”
Whelvis Cortes Naves, CEO and Co-Founder, Kid’s Brasil, Brazil

“Mothercare is part of Reliance Brands Limited owned by India’s largest conglomerate Reliance Industries Ltd. We are running 140 stores across the country offering a wide range of baby products. We have been visiting Hong Kong Baby Products Fair over the past five years. There are so many exhibitors with a lot of products on offer. This year, we’ve already found 10 to 12 new suppliers with factories in Mainland China for a variety of products such as strollers, maternity bags, carriers, highchairs, walkers and gift sets. Some designs are very nice and some of the suppliers offer competitive pricing. The prospect looks really great and we expect to generate business turnover of US$3 million a year. This is a great event and we’ve got what we wanted. The protests in Hong Kong have not affected our journey. It’s a safe city and everything has gone very well.”
