““In business for 30 years, Lindsays supplies watch bands and parts to 500 retailers in Australia. I have visited the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair for more than 20 years because it is convenient for me to meet with both existing and new suppliers in one place. Every year I visit the whole fair to see the latest watch trends and know more about the market needs. At this year’s fair, I am looking for watch straps made of rubber, plastics and metals in different colours and sizes. On the first day of the fair, I met with five existing suppliers and two new and potential suppliers and already placed orders for US$20,000 worth of watch straps with four existing suppliers. I’ll continue my negotiation with one of the potential suppliers and see if there is an opportunity for me to distribute their watch straps in Australia. It is a good show. I’ll meet with more suppliers in the next few days.”
Mark McNeil, General Manager, Lindsays, Australia |
“We distribute brandname watches in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. This is my second time visiting the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair and the Salon de TE. I am looking for new opportunities of bringing in new brands and launching our own brand for sporty watches. I find the HKTDC’s business matching service very useful because it helps me to find suitable suppliers. I am particularly interested in a dress watch brand from the Netherlands and I’ll meet with the brand owner again in Singapore later. I have also found three potential suppliers from Mainland China. After the fair, we’ll select the best one to produce sporty watches for our own brand. Our first order will be 50 pieces because we want to test the market first.”

“Founded in 1966, Soprod develops and produces high-quality mechanical, automatic and smart movements in Switzerland. All of our movement parts such as air springs, escapement wheels and anchors are also produced in our factories. Our movements are exported to Europe, Hong Kong and the US. We notice that many new brands and watchmakers in Mainland China need to buy Swiss-made mechanical movements for making luxurious Chinese watches or high-end watches with Swiss labels. As there are a lot of opportunities for us to develop new business, we have set up our booth in the Swiss Independent Watchmaking Pavilion at the Salon de TE for the first time. We have met with brand owners, watchmakers and decision makers from Hong Kong and Mainland China who are very interested in our mechanical watches. We are confident that we’ll conclude deals through the Salon de TE. We’ll definitely come back next year.”
Gigon Sebastien, Sales Manager, Soprod SA, Switzerland (booth: 3D-S06) |
“Established at the beginning of this year, our company has become the sole agent of Garmin smart watches for Hong Kong and Macau since mid-August. We are exhibiting at the Salon de TE for the first time to promote our brand because the show attracts a lot of international buyers and local retailers and wholesalers. We want to let buyers know that Garmin watches perfectly blend new technology, smart features and sports elements. Our popular models are well-liked by people who love running, swimming or cycling. Buyers’ responses have been good at the show. We have been busy answering enquiries from buyers from Cambodia, Europe and Mainland China who are keen to know more about our products. We expect new orders to come after the show. Smart watches are the second most popular smart wearables just after smartphones. The market for smart watches is big as people are becoming more health-conscious.”
