Last but Not Least, Rubber Is Trendy
“When the rubber latex prices are down in Thailand, the government always looks for fresh new ideas to utilize the commodity, hoping that new demand from various industries will help sustain rubber prices in the long run. A Bangkok-based company, Atleast Corporation Co., Ltd., has come up with an innovative idea that not only add high value to the products made from this natural material, but also redefine what they call “Eco-fashion”.
“We are architects-turned-entrepreneurs. Nearly six years ago when we decided to quit our jobs at an architect studio to start our own business, we wanted to create good products with design and function. To be eco-friendly, we opted for plant-based material like natural rubber instead of leather. Our lifestyle items like tote bags, laptop computer and tablet cases, name card holders, wallets and etc., are all made from specially-treated rubber that is waterproof, cut proof and soft-touching,” said Teeraphol Ackaratiwa, Co-founder and Warunya Nuntasunti, Managing Director of Atleast Corporation (3B-E17A) The material is the outcome of their full-year research & development and is now patented.
Their brand “Least Studio” in co-operation with a Japanese partner is now working on a product development project to make new line of bags and lifestyle items that are made from rubber in combination with natural fabrics. Also in the product pipeline are rubber with aroma (like lavender-scented) and rubber decorated furniture. After the first launch in Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair 2018, the company comes back this year in Thailand Pavilion (Hall 3) with fresh new ideas to offer about rubber material in fashion world

“WA Media publishes trade magazines for promotional products, and we regard the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair as one of the important sourcing shows for market players in Germany. The fair gathers more than 4,380 exhibitors, making it an impressive wealth of choice for buyers. It’s not only the mere number and variety of exhibitors but also the creativity of many products as well as the quality and uniqueness of designs that amazed me. I spent hours in the Hall of Fine Designs to admire elaborately designed lifestyle products, office accessories, electronic gadgets and useful products for everyday life. I found a lot of products supporting today’s mobile lifestyle such as bags and backpacks with multiple functions (e.g. the beautifully designed backpacks from a Hong Kong company Mudhouse in Hall 1 that are highly customisable as well as the smart travel bags from a Mainland China company Korin in the same hall), on-the-go mugs and bottles made from different kinds of materials ranging from stainless steel, aluminum, glass, wood to porcelain, bamboo and even rice husks (offered by a Taiwanese company CKC Environmental Technology in the Starup zone), induction chargers, RFID blocking wallets and wireless Bluetooth earphones. Other interesting products include the bespoke sketch books and bags from a Thai exhibitor AtLeast which are made by their own patented rubber formula, making the products feel like leather and heat-resistant, cut-proof, water-resistant and eco-friendly.
I can’t wait to see these and other products finding their way from Hong Kong to the European market! This is my first-time visit to the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair and Hong Kong and both have thrilled me.

“This year the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair is even more exciting than the previous year! Although the exhibition design concept is associated with a cozy home atmosphere, it only helps to impress me with new and hi-tech products such as a big electronic writing board from Shenzhen Newlight Industrial Co. Ltd and the 3-in-1 log diary from Kokuyo Company Limited. The major trends this year, as I see, are multifunctional, ecological and compact gadgets and images (and figures) of home pets, such as little dogs or cats. The new zone of the “World of Beauty, Fitness & Well-being”, which dedicated to wellness products is a very successful idea and it presents a wide variety of products that can be used under different circumstances (at home, outdoor, during camping or travelling) and can improve your health and appearance. The zone for corporate gifts is interesting as it showcases unusual and stylish sports gifts such as those from Hitop Crystal Crafts Co. Limited.”

“Established in 1995, our company uses 100% pure and natural ingredients to produce aromatherapy products such as fragrance diffusers, room spray, body care products and candles in New Zealand. We participate in the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair once in every two years because we make a lot of new contacts at the fair and spend a year’s time on building long-term relationships with them. At this year’s fair, we have got in touch with more than 50 new buyers from many places such as Canada, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Korea, Mainland China, the Netherlands and Russia. We expect 20% of these new buyers will place orders for our products after the fair. We are also happy to have received onsite orders from two existing buyers from Malaysia and Hong Kong for candles, body care products and fragrance diffusers worth a total of US$20,000. The Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair is important to our company because it provides an effective channel for us to develop not only the Asian market but also the global market.”
Wayne Dickson, CEO, The Aromatherapy Company, New Zealand (New zone: “World of Beauty, Fitness & Well-being”)

“Launched last October, W10 is a collapsible double-walled cup with a stainless steel outer shell and a BPA-free plastic liner. Suitable for hot and cold drinks, each cup is sold with a pouch and can be carried in a bag or jacket pocket. To save the planet, it can be reusable. We are exhibiting at the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair for the first time to introduce this new brand and find new customers. Our innovative and patented design has attracted a lot of interest from international buyers. We have talked to more than 100 new buyers from different parts of the world including Hong Kong, India, Mainland China, Taiwan, Spain, Switzerland and the US. More than 10% of these new buyers are expected to place orders with us after the fair. The Hong Kong fair provides a good opportunity for us to increase our exposure in the Asian market. It’s a good show.”
Tracy Murphy, Creative Director, JOI Limited, the UK

“We started our business in 1996 by using A$30 worth of recycled cardboard to produce greeting cards on a kitchen table. After years of development, we offer beautifully-designed greeting cards, stationery, mugs, travel accessories and hand cream that can make a difference in people’s lives. A message of hope, love or encouragement is added to each product. Our main markets are Australia and New Zealand. We are exhibiting at the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair for the first time to develop new markets. We are very happy with the fair because we have met with so many buyers from many places such as Brazil, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Lebanon, Mainland China, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia, the UAE, the UK and the US. Buyers are very interested in our products which are very unique. We have found potential distributors from India, New Zealand, the UK and the US. Buyers’ responses exceed our expectations. We’ll come back next year.”

“Samsung C & T Fashion Division has 1,500 shops in Korea, carrying 56 fashion brands. I am looking for beauty accessories, personal care products, giveaways, promotional items and houseware products at the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair. Through the HKTDC’s business matching service, I have found two potential suppliers of personal care products like body shampoo and conditioner from Thailand. I like their products because they are made from organic and natural ingredients. To apply for the import certificate, we’ll send their samples to our government’s food and health department for examination. After obtaining the certificate, we’ll visit their factories. We have reserved an annual budget of US$1 million for buying personal care products. If these two Thai suppliers can meet all of our requirements, we’ll buy from them. I have visited the Hong Kong Fair for several times and it’s getting better and better with more quality products.”

“Established in 1999, Dolphin Print Arts is a wholesaler of corporate gifts and paper handicrafts in India and opened a B2B online store in 2006. I have come to the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair for the first time because I want to source from suppliers directly instead of importers in India for more competitive prices and a greater variety of products. Up till now, I have found four to five potential suppliers of pens, notebook covers and sticky notes. I plan to place trial orders worth a total of US$20,000-25,000 with these new suppliers. The fair gathers a huge number of suppliers to showcase all kinds of gifts. As our customers are more and more price-conscious, it’s good for me to come here to look for competitively-priced products and innovative designs.”
Anil Batra, Owner, Dolphin Print Arts, India
