Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show

An Exquisite Pearls and Sparkling Gems Trade Platform

Toasted to the success were: Benjamin Chau (middle), Deputy Executive Director, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Ryoichi Ito (left), Director General, Japan External Trade Organization Hong Kong and Yoshihiro Shimizu (right), President, Japan Pearl Exporters' Association

“We’re excited to be here this year as Japan has become partner country for the first time at the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show. A total of 109 Japanese pearl exporters are showcasing in our pavilion at the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, making it our biggest-ever presence at the trade fair. There is strong demand for Japanese pearls and our exports continue to grow each year. About 80% of our pearls are exported to Hong Kong, which is a very important market for us. In 2018, the total value of Japanese pearls exported to Hong Kong amounted to HK$2 billion and this fair alone saw HK$570 million worth of Japanese pearl traded. The sales results were very successful and one of last year’s participating exhibitors sold out its pearls in just one or two days. We see a steady stream of customers coming to our booths this year and the Chinese mainland buyers continue to show strong purchasing interest. This is always a good show. We expect to generate encouraging sales again this year.”
Ryoichi Ito, Director General, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Hong Kong, Japan

“VISANTI is one of the biggest jewellery manufacturers in Poland. In business for 17 years, we are now operating more than 10 jewellery stores in different cities of the country. We also sell our collections to other countries in Europe. The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show serves as a major sourcing platform and we come here every year to source attractive items. We have already placed a US$50,000 order with a Hong Kong supplier at the Show for a selection of pearls, necklaces and bracelets. Negotiation is also underway with another 10 new suppliers from Hong Kong and mainland China for pearls, rubies, sapphires and diamonds that can go with our jewellery designs. We expect to spend up to US$300,000 for the purchase of different products this time. This is a huge Show with so many exhibitors offering high quality products at reasonable prices. We can always find something new and interesting each year.”
Aneta Parlak (left), General Manager, and Konrad Parlak (right), Assistant Manager, VISANTI Sp. Z o.o., Poland

“Di ROMA is a wholesaler specialising in silver and stainless jewellery in Brazil. With a history of 15 years, we supply various items to jewellery retailers across the country. The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show is the best fair of its kind in the world. I can find different gemstones and raw materials at reasonable prices. That’s why I visit the Show every year. So far, I have got in touch with three to four new suppliers from the mainland for different products like opal, coral and mother of pearl shell. I am planning to place orders worth around US$20,000 for various items. At the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, I will pick up some new silver jewellery collections from existing and new suppliers. The total sourcing budget will be up to US$300,000 for the two fairs together. Hong Kong is definitely the most important sourcing platform for our business development I am able to find so many suppliers from the mainland China and get access to a lot of interesting products at competitive prices.”
Otavio Dias Neto, Director, Di ROMA, Brazil

Hear What Exhibitors Say

“Our company has been in the pearl business for 30 years. We specialise in the sale of natural pearls that we source from different places worldwide such as the Caribbean, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show is a must-attend event for us every year. Clam pearl is one of our special features for this year’s showcase. The white colour of clam pearl looks very appealing, making it very suitable to match with other stones and jewelley design. We’ve met with some new buyers from the Mainland China and India. They’ve bought some clam pearls and conch pearls already. The news of improving Sino-US trade relations has definitely lifted the overall buying sentiment. It is still early to predict this year’s sales but we look forward positively to the results. This fair is an excellent place to meet old and new customers to grow our business.
Marco Giovanardi, Director, Milleperle Ltd, Hong Kong (Booth No.: AWE 1-A02)

“Our company offers a wide range of fine gemstones in different colours. Our main products are tourmaline, spinel and garnet. We have been participating in the Hong Kong fair for many years. Again, we are showcasing a lot of quality stones this year. Apart from small-sized gems, special highlights include a rare 20-carat red spinel from Tanzania, a pair of lavender spinel and a pure 13.78-carat emerald. We’ve drawn a great deal of interest. Many existing customers have returned while some new buyers from Malaysia, Italy and Hong Kong approached us to source stones. Some of our gemstones have been snapped up already. Sales look positive. This fair attracts many quality buyers, especially those from Asian markets like Taiwan, the mainland China and Singapore. We achieved very good results last year and anticipate to record strong sales again this time.”
Sasha Golokoz, Executive Assistant, Vitalii Golokoz, Pte., Ukraine (Booth No.: AWE 1-A27)

Hear What Media Say

“As you walk through the halls at the HKTDC Hong Kong International, Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, it is amazing how many languages we hear from all over the world. This includes not only the visitors, but also the exhibitors who showcase an amazing selection of gemstones. One of the exhibitors featuring a variety of stones was Imperial Colors Co., Ltd. (booth no AWE 8E- E28). The CEO Zoe Michelou explained that the company is a second-generation gem business, now based in Bangkok. They offer a range of tourmalines, including an unusual bluish-green “Lagoon” tourmaline, weighing 38.75 carats from Africa. Another gem that caught my attention was a no-heat saturated blue aquamarine weighing 9.21 carats from Madagascar. Other gems offered by Imperial Colors were top quality garnet, spinel and Paraiba slices, as well as high quality calibrated diamond-cut emerald melee from Pakistan.”

Cynthia Unninayar, Managing Editor, InColor magazine

“I have come across a real “GEM” here at the show. The Art's King Co., Ltd (Booth no. AWE 9-D40) has created a brand, Meli & Moli, which is committed to the creation of China's first Aromatherapy Jewellery. Their artistic vision is in sync with international fashion trends, with exquisite workmanship and diversified elements. I found this product line to be really innovative and in tune with today’s principles in terms of functionality and design. The array of aromatherapy oils and wonderful combinations of various crystal bottles is not only a visual feast but a wonderfully complimentary accompaniment. This really is an extremely innovative product and I urge you to go have a look.”

Sancia Mincher, Managing Director, Jewellers’ Network, South Africa
