Local Designers by Hong Kong Eyewear Designer Club @ Brand Name Gallery |
|
The Hong Kong Eyewear Designer Club proudly presents the city’s creativity and vision. Explore a vibrant showcase of the brands that demonstrate elite local design talent at Trend Avenue, Brand Name Gallery. |
“This is the first time that the Hong Kong Eyewear Designer Club (HKEDC) has set up the Trend Avenue at the Brand Name Gallery to promote the latest collections from 10 local eyewear designers. With the support from the HKTDC, the Trend Avenue provides a cost-effective platform for independent designers to show their creative designs to international buyers. Apart from displaying the latest collections, each designer showcase comes with a QR code, allowing buyers to scan the QR code and connect with the designer. I am happy to be one of the participating designers at the Trend Avenue. I am promoting Genic Eyewear which is designed for Asian consumers. Genic Eyewear features trendy and youthful designs and comes with high quality, but it is sold at affordable prices. I hope to connect with optical shops and retailers from different countries and regions through the Trend Avenue.”

“After eight years of development, Novar Technologies launched a new design software in 2016 which can help laboratories to produce Free Form lenses. Laboratories in Africa, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America and some Asian countries are using our design software. This is our first-time participation in the Hong Kong Optical Fair because we are keen to further develop the Asian market. At the fair, we have got in touch with laboratories from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Russia. Two new buyers from the Philippines and Russia are going to try our software and we’ll offer them a 45-day free trial so that they can test our technology. We expect that more buyers will visit our booth and try our software.”

“Our company has four optical shops and one online contact lens shop in Malaysia and also distributes international brands and our own brand – Ryan Adda in Australia and Malaysia. I have been visiting the Hong Kong Optical Fair for several times. I am here looking for new brands and OEM manufacturers who can add value to my own brand. The Hong Kong Optical Fair is the best show that I have ever visited. With the help of the HKTDC’s business matching team, I have found two new eyewear brands from France and Italy for my markets and already confirmed orders with these two companies for US$17,500 worth of optical frames. In addition, I have placed an order with my existing OEM supplier from Hong Kong for US$30,000 worth of optical frames.”
Ryan Ho, Senior Optometrist, Professional Eyewear Stylist & Designer, Malaya Optical Uptown Sdn Bhd, Malaysia |
“We operate 20 optical stores and one online optical store in Poland, selling optical frames, sunglasses and accessories. We sell more optical frames to women than to men because women regard optical frames as fashion accessories and they like to change their frames more frequently. This is my second time visiting the Hong Kong Optical Fair. I am looking for different optical frames for children and adults. I have found six potential suppliers of optical frames from the Chinese mainland. I have already placed orders for US$70,000 worth of optical frames from both new and existing suppliers. I like the Hong Kong Optical Fair because I can find a lot of suppliers who can provide quality products and good prices. Customer service is also very good.”

“Based in Korea, Interojo is the largest soft contact lens producer in Asia, with Canada, the Chinese mainland, Europe, Japan, the Middle East and the US as our major markets. This is our eighth time participating in the Hong Kong Optical Fair. The fair is important to our company because we can meet many buyers here every year and successfully find distributors through the fair. At this year’s fair, we are showcasing a wide range of soft contact lenses under our Clalen brand including our newly-launched one-day silicone hydrogel soft contact lenses. We have talked to new buyers from Bahrain, the Chinese mainland, India, Kazakhstan and Russia. We think that new buyers from Bahrain and India are our potential distributors. The fair can help us to develop new markets.”
Charlie Lee, Sales Manager/Int’l Business Dept., Interojo Inc, Korea |
“Established in 1988, Bestwork specialises in the production of high-end acetate optical frames in different styles and colour combinations. Europe has been our main market which represents 70% of our annual sales turnover, followed by the US (15-20%) and Australia (the remainder). The Hong Kong Optical Fair provides a good opportunity for us to let more buyers know that Hong Kong can produce high-quality acetate optical frames at affordable prices. It is also a good place for us to show our new collections to international buyers. At this year’s fair, we have met with new buyers from Germany, Malaysia and the US. We are happy that four to five new and existing buyers from Germany, the UK and the US will place orders for US$200,000 worth of our optical frames.”
Bobby To, Manager, Bestwork Industries Limited, Hong Kong |

Feminine Butterfly:
A fresh take on the cat-eye, a new butterfly takes flight at the Fair including this favourite from OVVO Optics. |

|
70’s Redux:
Vintage silhouettes are making a comeback with key shapes such as throwback rectangles and boldly oversized rounded rectangles, including these styles by Etnia Barcelona. |
Next-Gen Aviators:
New and modern aviator styling unveiled at the Fair ushered in a whole new look for this classic frame design. One such style shown here from iO Ethical Italian Eyewear features a floating brow bar, suspended lenses and a double metal rim. |
“With so much choice and so many outstanding offerings on display, it was exceedingly difficult to narrow my selection of favourites to just a few booths. However, I have to say one of the highlights for me was the Glam SRL (GH-D41), which showcased fresh and unique designs from the independent, family-owned Italian eyewear brand. In particular, the Ace 2 B and Steel Light collections caught my eye.
Keeping with the theme of lightweight eyewear, the Opticon Limited (GH-F12) has a range of new offerings from the Naturalism. T collection of wood frames are different to many of the other materials featured at the fair. The predominantly bamboo designs are only 2.3mm thick and the inventive manufacturing process ensures they are tougher and more durable than their delicate appearance would suggest.
Finally, relative newcomer Blanc Group Limited (GH-D02) continues to surprise with its bold shapes and eye-catching lenses. Korean-American designer and founder Jessica Jung uses the different cities she has visited around the world as inspiration, and while I may be biased, the angular squared lines and double frame of the ‘Sydney’ design made it my favourite piece from her most recent collection.”
