“In business for 40 years, The Frame Company supplies optical frames to retailers in Australia and New Zealand. This is my third time visiting the Hong Kong Optical Fair. I am looking for optical frames which are unique and unusual because consumers in our markets especially female consumers like something special. I have found one to two potential suppliers and will talk to them again during the fair period. For a new supplier, I usually place sample orders like 20 to 30 models for three to four colours and then show them to my customers. The Hong Kong Optical Fair is the best optical fair that I have ever visited. It is a truly international optical fair which is very well-organised. I like it very much.”
Tony Mackeson, Director, The Frame Company, Australia |
“Optique Le Cartier has a large optical shop in Quebec, Canada. We are going to start our wholesale business later this year by selling branded optical frames and sunglasses to retailers in Canada and the US. That’s why we have come here for the first time to look for branded products. Consumers in Canada prefer European brands and styles. We have found two potential suppliers of reading glasses and we are going to look for European eyewear brands in the Brand Name Gallery. The Brand Name Gallery is a good place for us to see different eyewear brands from Europe and we’ll consider bringing some new European brands to our markets.”

“Launched in 1923, Lafont is a Paris-based designer eyewear brand for optical frames and sunglasses. All of our products are made in France. Apart from operating five optical boutiques in France, we also export our products to 40 countries and regions through distributors. We have been exhibiting at the Hong Kong fair for almost 10 years because the fair attracts many buyers from Europe, Southeast Asia and the US. It provides a good opportunity for us to us to meet with people who are chain store operators, distributors and opticians and show our new collections to them. We are keen to expand into new markets such as Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam through the fair. We have got in touch with new buyers from the Chinese mainland, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. We are going to meet with potential distributors from Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam in the next two days through the HKTDC's business matching service.”
Nicolas Montagny, Asia Sales Manager, Lafont Asia Limited, Hong Kong |
“In business for 30 years in the Italian eyewear sector, Area 98 owns three high-end brands, namely Coco Song, CCS and Robert Rüdger, and four fashion brands namely KXOS, La Matta, Oliviero Contini and Genesis. Most of them are handmade. Our main markets are Europe and the US. We have been participating in the Hong Kong Optical Fair for more than 10 years because it is an important fair for us to expand our business in Southeast Asia. At this year’s fair, we focus on promoting Coco Song which features the use of silk, feathers, leaves, flowers and grass, as well as semi-precious stones such as lapis lazuli, turquoise, tiger’s eye and malachite. We are happy to have found a potential distributor from Hong Kong on the first day of the fair and both parties will have further negotiations tomorrow. We have also talked to existing distributors from Australia, Israel, Singapore and South Africa.”
Luciana Olivotto, Head of Sales, Area 98 SRL, Italy |
