 “Launched in 2010, Bodhi is an internationally renowned aromatherapy skincare brand from Thailand. Our company started to act as an agent for this brand in Asia in 2016. We are selling Bodhi all-natural herbal essential oils, massage oils and bath salts in our stores in Hong Kong and we’ll open the first Bodhi Spa Centre in Hong Kong. We are showcasing Bodhi products for the first time in the new Candles & Scents zone at the Hong Kong Houseware Fair. We are looking for business partners who can cooperate with us to open Bodhi retail shops and spa centres in their countries and regions. The fair also provides a good opportunity to promote our brand image. After trying Bodhi products at our booth, buyers from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Europe and the US are very interested and they said that the quality is very good. About 12 buyers have expressed their intention to cooperate with us. We are happy with the results so far.”

 The Hong Kong Houseware Fair and Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair combine the best and newest products for everything home-related. The fairs are well-organised and easy to navigate, they efficiently group products by L.I.F.E theme. I especially enjoyed perusing some of the areas inhabited by the Indian Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts and the Thailand SME IDOL, which features an array of traditional Thai artistry.
Among the highlights of the show is the display area presenting four trends for Spring/Summer 2020 and the accompanying interiors presentation that explains those trends and lifestyle elements and how they are playing out in product development, colour choices and material selections. The display was a sensory experience worth exploring and unlike any trend presentation I’ve seen at other trade shows. I found the trends to be spot-on with what we are seeing at other home furnishings shows.
On the fair floors, hints of those trends emerge in the booths of the hundreds of exhibitors. The move toward tactile products is obvious — woven baskets, raffia-lined trays, even plastic storage bins have a textured pattern incorporated. Companies are leaning toward more natural, organic materials, such as porcelain planters and terrazzo trays, picture frames and bath sets. Sustainability is another story that is growing in importance, with such innovation such as recycled glassware. Minimal, modern designs are still the heavy favourite, but you can see hints of the shift toward more embellishment, and lots of colour with cultural influences from around the globe.

 Many people have come to visit the Hong Kong Houseware Fair on the first day of exhibition. It felt like they had been waiting for it for a long time. This is impressive. Different halls are well positioned and easy to find under the L.I.F.E theme. The exhibition guide is very clear and helpful. During my tour, some exhibitors have caught my attention. Here are some examples:
Korea Clad Technology Co. Ltd - Several cladding materials (aluminium, copper, titanium), high-end production technology and strong design.
XTRA Group Limited - Their thermos won the Red Dot Award 2018. Very interesting design and product innovation. Xtra is both a design brand and a supplier for market leader operators like Lufthansa, Emirates, Alfi.
KOOL Limited - Probably the most eye-catching booth in the hall. That is a smart marketing idea. Starting from their pay-off: “Never Stop Creating” means both keeping on producing on demand as a supplier and don’t stop innovating in their own brand. Smart use of colour for products display and well-designed products.
Bzyoo International Inc. - Different materials (melamine, plastic, glass) and several colours available for bzyoo dishware and bottles. An internal design team (American and Australian designers) creates interesting tactility and texture simulation - one of the emerging trends for 2020.
Since I am from Italy, I visit an Italian exhibitor, just to check how was his feeling about the fair. He told me that it is always worth coming: “The world comes here, so you do not have to go around the world."

 “Home plus is a hypermarket chain running 140 stores in Korea. Our Home Living Team is responsible for purchasing cookware, kitchenware, tableware, bath products and home cleaning products. I am looking for new brands from Western Europe at the Hong Kong Houseware Fair. I am very interested in two Italian cookware brands which offer good designs and reasonable prices, and want to be their distributors in Korea. For expensive products, we’ll buy 3,000 pieces per item. For promotional products, we’ll buy 10,000 pieces per item. Apart from cookware, we also hope to find new European brands for tableware and cleaning products. I like the Hong Kong Houseware Fair because I can meet with suppliers from Asia and Europe.”

 “In business for 15 years, Cucina & Bagno is a wholesaler and retailer in Argentina, selling decorative items, kitchenware, bath products and home textiles. This is my first time visiting the Hong Kong Houseware Fair. I am here looking for new business opportunities and new products. Up till now, I have found four potential suppliers of bamboo bowls and bags from Vietnam, carpets and pillows from India, porcelain ware and glass containers from Mainland China, and bath products from Hong Kong. I plan to buy US$10,000 worth of products from each new supplier. The Hong Kong Houseware Fair is a very interesting trade fair where I can find new products and good designs. I’ll come again.”

 “VIVA operates seven pet stores in Thailand and plans to open two to three more stores this year. Apart from selling 1,000 items for pet supplies, we also have pet clinics and pet grooming service in our stores. The pet industry is growing strong in Thailand because pets have become the family members of their owners. This is my first time visiting the World of Pet Supplies in the Hong Kong Houseware Fair. I am glad to see new trends and new products. I like a pet health care product from Korea that can check the health conditions of pets after urinating. I am also interested in a foldable and portable swimming pool and a velvet pet bed. I plan to buy several hundred pieces per item.”

 “Established in 2006, Tongxiang Haomeijian specialises in the production of mulberry silk quilts, bedding sets, covers, pillows and cushions. We always strive to develop new items to enrich our product range. New designs include silk eyeshades and small pillows with mini-sized silk quilt inside. This is our debut at Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair to expand presence in Southeast Asia and the overseas market. Two Taiwanese retailers have expressed serious interest in our mulberry silk quilts. One of them is looking to purchase about 500 sets. Some buyers from other countries including Poland and Germany have also made enquiry about our products. This fair can really help us secure new customers and grow overseas business. The results are encouraging. We look forward to finalising business development with the new customers we’ve met here.”

 “With a history of 23 years, Rovitex is the largest home textiles manufacturer and wholesaler in Hungary. Our products are selling in Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Germany. This is my visit to the Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair to source new products. So far, I’ve already found two Indian rug suppliers as well as three Mainland China suppliers for a variety of items like blankets, cushions, pillows and towels. We will also discuss further about design specifications and the terms of cooperation. We usually place orders on container basis. This fair is a perfect place to establish contact with suppliers and learn about the market trends.”

 “In business for 25 years, FARO is a leading home textiles supplier in Poland. We provide a wide range of products from quilts to cushion covers, kitchen textiles and baby home textiles selling across European markets. About 60% of our products are under licensed brands with the remainder under our own brand. This is my first visit to the Hong Kong International Home Textiles and Furnishings Fair. On the first day of exhibition, I've found three new suppliers from Hong Kong and Mainland China for silk bedding sets and kitchen items through the business matching meetings. We will place bigger orders that usually range from US$20,000 to US$200,000 each depending on products. The Hong Kong fair has a lot to offer. Everything looks better than expected. I am positive about finding more suppliers. I would like to visit the fair again to explore more opportunities.”

“Launched two years ago, SPACEPLAN is a one-stop online platform for interior design and decoration consultancy services, allowing consumers to compare the designs and quotations of many interior design and decoration companies in Hong Kong. I have just launched an app for SPACEPLAN. Currently, more than 200 interior design and decoration companies have joined our platform, 80% of which were set up by young designers. SPACEPLAN Interior Design Award Presentation Ceremony was held on the second day of the Hong Kong Houseware Fair to recognise the achievements of 13 young and talented designers. It also provides a platform for designers to meet with houseware suppliers and exchange their ideas. SPACEPLAN is also exhibiting in the Startup zone at the fair because we want to look for business partners who can cooperate with us to develop an e-commerce platform for suppliers to sell their home decoration products to interior design and decoration companies.” |
