“This is the second year we’ve organised the Czech Republic pavilion at the HKTDC Food Expo to promote our wide-ranging food products. A total 10 food producers from Czech Republic are showcasing a good variety of items such as beverages, beers and wines, milk, cereals, confectionery and sweets. The exhibition results were very positive last year as our companies secured a lot of business contacts. Hong Kong is an important gateway to make entry into Asian markets such as Taiwan, Japan and Southeast Asia. The Expo just provides an excellent platform for Czech food producers to expand business in this part of the world.

We have brought together five food producers from Kazakhstan in a pavilion, showcasing various products likes organic sweets, natural honey, salt and processed meat. Our participating companies have met with some buyers from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland who showed keen interest in our offerings. The Expo is well-organised with a large number of exhibitors and buyers from around the world. We’re very excited to be here to find buyers and expand business. Everything has been good and we’re satisfied with the exhibition feedback.”

“Mexico is making a strong presence at the HKTDC Food Expo for the second consecutive year with a pavilion featuring nine food producers. Products on offer range from fresh avocados, avocado oils, organic honey, pork, macadamia nuts and Mexican fruit tuna, a superfood that can prevent heart disease and cancer. Last year’s debut generated very positive responses from buyers as our avocados successfully penetrated the Middle East market and up to 420 tons of avocado and chia had been shipped to Asian buyers over the past year. We’ve got in touch with a lot of buyers from different places like Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Kazakhstan, UAE and India. The prospect looks positive. Mexico is keen to expand our exports into more new markets. The Expo is a perfect place to promote our products and explore new customers.”

“Polish food producers have been participating in the fair over the past five years. Led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Poland is hosting a pavilion again gathering 10 companies here to promote various products like fruit juices, beers, milk, sweets and caviar. We also arrange Polish food tasting and cooking demonstrations to draw buyers’ interest. We’ve met quite a lot of buyers. The business matching meetings have enhanced access to more potential customers. Our companies are happy with the responses and they really love exhibiting here to gain more international exposure. The Expo really opens up opportunities for Poland food companies to penetrate the Chinese mainland and the Southeast Asian markets. The prospect of business growth is very good.

“California is hosting a pavilion again at the HKTDC Food Expo this year with seven food producers showcasing some specialty foods and beverages such as edible oils, olive oils, avocado oils, instant ice cream and quinoa products. Hong Kong is a lead market for Californian food exporters expanding business in Asia. Californian companies have generated successful results through the Expo over the past few years. HKTDC provides excellent support and we’re very happy with the fruitful exchanges with buyers through the business matching meetings. The Expo is always a very successful exhibition offering a great deal of business opportunities. We can meet with many buyers from different parts of the world here. Our companies really love the Expo and enjoy exhibiting here”
Jeffrey A. Williamson, Director, California Small Business Export Program, USA (Booth: 5C-A18)

“The Department of Industrial Promotion is organising a Thai pavilion at the HKTDC Food Expo for the first time to promote our great variety of food items. We’ve gathered 16 food producers from Thailand at our pavilion with another 20 Thai exhibitors lined up by Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion in the next door. This enables a successful showcase of Thai food products here. Organic food, health food and items with functional benefits are highlights of the exhibition. One of our participating companies has already received an order for a container of crispy chicken sticks from a Singaporean buyer. Another company secured orders for three containers of foods from Japanese and Korean customers. The responses have been very encouraging. The Expo is an excellent event gathering a large number of buyers and exhibitors to do business in a cozy environment. It’s a great place to capture international customers. We look forward to exhibiting here again next year.”
Yuparat Satawiriya (2nd from left), Director, Division of Industrial Business Capability Development, and Decha Chatutananant (2nd from right), Deputy Director General, Department of Industrial Promotion (Booth: 5C-B24)

“We have brought together a total of 72 food companies with 80 booths for the Korean pavilion at the HKTDC Food Expo this year. This is the biggest-ever presence for Korean companies in the Hong Kong trade event. The MOU signing between HKTDC and Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation during the exhibition marks a step forward in strengthening cooperation and business exchanges. Korean companies are keen to participate in the Expo to reach international buyers and expand business. Korean ginseng, kimchi, seaweed and health snack food continue to be the best-selling items this year. The feedback is satisfactory. Some participating companies have already got orders from new buyers and existing customers. The Expo is the best trade event for Korean food companies to gain international exposure, offering the most effective channel to find new buyers.
Songchoi Kim Charles, Manager, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, Korea (Booth: 5C-C02)

Buyer Feedback

“Innohealth specialises in the import and wholesale of food ingredients and food flavours in Taiwan. We focus on B2B customers, mainly food processing companies. This is my first visit to the HKTDC Food Expo to source dairy food ingredients such as butter and cheese. So far, I’ve already found three new suppliers including a USA exhibitor and a Czech exhibitor for butter and cheese, and a Japanese company for tea powder. We hope to conclude deal with USA exhibitor Muldoon Dairy Inc. with the potential business up to 10 tons of butter and cheese a year. I’ve also met with three other Japanese suppliers through the business matching meetings. They provide cheese in small-sized packaging that caters more to the needs of B2C clients. The Expo is a good show with many choices”
Jui Peng Huang, R&D Manager, Innohealth International Ent., Ltd., Taiwan

“In business for over 20 years, CJ Foodville is one of the leading restaurant operators in Korea. With a host of brands under our group, we are running more than 2,000 restaurants, bakery shops and coffee shops across the country. We are visiting the HKTDC Food Expo for the first time to source snacks, candies and chocolates. Talks are now underway with two Japanese suppliers for cookies and nuts, and a Thai exhibitor for dried fruits. We plan to purchase at least one container of products from each supplier. The Expo showcases a good mix of interesting products from different exhibitors. The organiser has helped us get in touch with suppliers effectively. We will visit the fair again. ”
Lee Ji Hye, Merchandising Expert, CJ Foodville, Korea

“Established in 1971, Mohamed Mustafa & Samsuddin operates a 500,000 square foot department store in Singapore. This is my first visit to the HKTDC Food Expo to source new products. I have already placed an order with a Chinese mainland supplier for a container of confectionery worth of US$100,000. Negotiation is underway with Iranian exhibitor Yar Diamond Nuts Co for a container of dried figs worth about US$120,000, and with a Hong Kong exhibitor for a variety of chocolates with an estimated value of US$150,000. The Expo is a good fair offering a lot of choices. We source products mainly through trade fairs that allow us to reach different suppliers effectively. This Expo offers a solid platform and we will definitely come again. ”

Exhibitor Feedback

“Hunan Province has a long history of tea production on the Chinese mainland. We have organised tea companies from Hunan Province to take part in the Hong Kong International Tea Fair for the 10th consecutive year. This year, the Hunan Pavilion is the largest-ever Hunan Pavilion with a delegation of 32 tea companies, presenting black tea and Anhua dark tea. The Tea Fair provides an important platform for tea companies from Hunan Province to introduce the health benefits of their tea products to buyers from all over the world. During the fair period, we have also organised large-scale business-matching meetings which provide good opportunities for Hunan companies to have direct interactions with international buyers. In view of favourable responses from buyers, we’ll organise a larger delegation to join next year’s Tea Fair.
Fu Danzhou, Vice Chairman, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Hunan Sub-council, the Chinese mainland (Booth: 5G-A02)

“We have led a delegation of more than 20 tea companies from Ankang, Shangluo, Hanzhong and Xianyang of Shaanxi Province to take part in this year’s Hong Kong International Tea Fair. They are promoting more than 300 types of tea products including green tea, fu tea, black tea and tea ware. They are also showcasing their tea products through product displays, tea art performances and the Hong Kong International Tea Competition. Ningqiang County Spring of Hanjian Tea Ltd, one of our Shaanxi delegates, won the First Runner-up in the Green Tea category of the Hong Kong International Tea Competition, reflecting the superior standard of Shaanxi’s teas. The Shaanxi Pavilion has attracted many buyers from Hong Kong, Sweden, the UK and the US who are interested in co-operating with our tea companies.
Su Wei, Deputy Manager, Shaanxi CO-OP Enterprise Group, the Chinese mainland (Booth: 5F-A02)

Buyer Feedback

“Established in 2004, Consimpex is a tea importer and distributor in Poland. Currently, we are a distributor of several black tea brands from Sri Lanka. To expand our product range, I have come to the Hong Kong International Tea Fair for the first time to look for green tea and black tea offered by suppliers from the Chinese mainland. So far, I have talked to more than 30 Chinese tea suppliers at the fair. I plan to buy five to ten containers of green tea and black tea from the right supplier per year. I like visiting the Hong Kong fair because it is the best place for me to meet with a lot of tea manufacturers from the Chinese mainland.
Jerzy Szostek, Owner, Consimpex, Poland

“In business since 1954, Mittal Teas supplies tea products to luxury hotels and cafes in India and also owns six tea houses including five in India and one in Japan. This is my first time visiting the Hong Kong International Tea Fair. I have found six potential suppliers including flower tea from the Chinese mainland, oolong tea from Taiwan, instant tea powder from Sri Lanka, and Chinese-style tea ware and automatic tea machines from Hong Kong suppliers. I have decided to buy six sets of automatic tea machines worth US$1,500 in total from a Hong Kong supplier for our tea houses. The Hong Kong fair brings together many tea suppliers from different countries and regions and I can find what I need here. I will come back again.”
Nikita Mittal, Marketing Head, Mittal Teas, India
