CENTRESTAGE 2019 came a flare for street-wear with sleek edge.

A multitude of fresh fashion brands brought CENTRESTAGE to life with unique designs – all celebrating diversity within fashion. Graffiti and characters dominated accessories. Brands such as NECRO POON, KEVIN HO, to FromClothingOf and CHARLOTTE NG STUDIO presented on the first day in FASHIONALLY COLLECTION #14.

Their collections speak attitude and colour. Focusing on the Fall's key trends of neon colour blocking, the silhouette introduced fresh and focused designs for the current market. In particular, FromClothingOf lit up the centre with their neon green looks. The iridescent green associated with a highlighter pen, spotlighting a key trend that won't be disappearing anytime soon.

CHARLOTTE NG STUDIO presented a more timeless collection of laid-back chic designs with feminine silhouette. Talking about the balance between the contemporary and the traditional, her designers are somewhat classic in terms of the context.
Khalid Abushaban, PR Manager, VELVET Magazine, UAE

BeautiMode is privileged to be invited to CENTRESTAGE, which puts Hong Kong in the centre of Asia’s fashion, demonstrating the considerable influence HKTDC has in the international market.

CENTRESTAGE ELITES showcase ANAÏS JOURDEN and ALTUZARRA, two newly established brands with amazing works and impressive creativity. The brands’ designers also attended the panel “When East Meets West: Young Creative Forces Reinventing International Runway”, they selflessly shared their personal experience of starting new businesses, giving practical advice and visionary perspectives to young designers, of which will be very helpful to Taiwanese designers in the future.

The event also scheduled multiple panels concerning the current market climate. Through these panels, BeautiMode were able to understand the situation and challenges when it comes to running a business. The reality can be difficult, but through the experience shared by industry predecessors, we are able to help new brands find better solutions and strategies.
Nikki Pien, Manager/Editor, BeautiMode.com, Taiwan

Hong Kong does feel like Asia’s fashion and cultural hub. The city is in a mood of arts and fashion, and I feel really excited to have discovered various artistic designs at CENTRESTAGE.

I’m really impressed by designs from ARTO., whose knitwear features mesh bonding techniques and 3D bubble print. The designs transform the wearer to a living piece of art. On the side note, the designer’s sweet smile adds extra points to the brand! The unique style of CHARLOTTE NG STUDIO expresses female beauty by combining feminine and masculine elements. The clash comes as a perfect blend to create harmony and pleasant looks.

Exhibitors’ Echo

“Established in London in 2018, the womenswear brand CELLO SONATA has relocated to Shanghai for business development. Looking to make inroads into the European and the United States markets, we decided to participate in CENTRESTAGE which is our first fashion event outside Mainland China. I was pretty busy throughout the inaugural day. I met with some walk-in buyers from France, Italy and the US as well as a German buyer via the HKTDC business matching service. Representing either the upmarket department store or multi-brand store, they have expressed their intentions for cooperation. Some mainland buyers from Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai and Xian also requested quotations of my collection. CENTRESTAGE is a good platform for business, and I would consider introducing my menswear label Basic Operation here next year.”
Zhang Ying, Director and Designer, CELLO SONATA, Mainland China

“Just established this year, VVISSI is a sustainable fashion brand for social good supported by fabric factories. Championing a circular economy, we have debuted our first-ever collection comprising of upcycled and recycled fashion, apparel made of high-quality organic cotton from Japan, print-on-demand shirts, patchwork designs and other chic items at CENTRESTAGE. Prior to my startup adventure, I worked for a local fashion brand which has been a frequent exhibitor at CENTRESTAGE where real business deals can be concluded and impacts can be made. This explains my presence here this year. Drawing international buyers, the show is a good platform for me to launch my label. I have also met with buyers from morning organised tours and at business matching meetings. Buyers of the world-famous upscale department store and select shop from Paris have already expressed their strong interest in placing orders with my brand. There are also other prospective buyers from Malaysia, Shenzhen of Mainland China and Vietnam. One of them runs an online shop. HKTDC is very supportive in driving traffic and fostering connections for exhibitors.”
Vickie Au, Founder, VVISSI, Hong Kong

“Started as an activewear brand in Macao, ANIFA has been selling its products in Mainland China via a network of select shops. The brand will soon open a crossover store with the famed English footballer Michael Owen in Macao. ANIFA has recently revised its strategy and now repositioned itself as a specialist in sports suits which have been the highly popular items among our merchandise. At CENTRESTAGE, the line of sports suits for men is in focus, and this strategy works. Our new designs have garnered the attention of some walk-in buyers representing Japanese and French department stores in Indonesia where functional fashion and chic sportswear are in hot demand. However, such brands and products are rarely found locally. They have requested a line sheet from us, indicating their strong interest in purchasing. We also met another buyer from Mainland China running over 500 shoe stores nationwide. We have talked for few hours exploring the possibility of forming a partnership. He will pay a visit to my office after the show. This year, CENTRESTAGE has attracted more suitable buyers who are keen to have a more in-depth conversation with us.”
Simon Kuong, Founder & CEO, ANIFA Corporation Limited, Macao

“Founded in 2016, I.N.K named after the initial of two founders, Inky Leong and Kris Chan, is a brand glorifying Macao's culture. I.N.K is also a poetic brand name implying the transformability of ink into different shapes. We have participated in CENTRESTAGE for the third year in a row. This year, our collection "RHAPSODY" featuring ethnic elements is showcased at the fairground and on the runway show. The runway presentation is best for image building and publicity. As a truly international event, CENTRESTAGE has drawn many keen buyers from around the globe. Over the past editions, orders were placed from the select shops and multi-brand stores of Germany, and Fujian and Shanghai of Mainland China. In the HKTDC matching meetings, the buyers we met with are very professional that they have a clear idea of what they really want. They always update us with valuable market trends and customers' preferences. This year, we are lined up with buyers from Belarus, Germany and Taiwan who have shown their strong enthusiasm in purchasing our products. We have arranged our line sheet and catalogue to them.”
Kris Chan, Co-founder and Brand Design Director, I.N.K, Macao

Buyers’ Commentary

“16seventyone seeks to introduce more fashion brands to Malaysia. We represent a number of fashion and footwear brands especially those from Malaysia and Singapore. Customers like department stores and retailers can source suitable items effectively through us. CENTRESTAGE offers a solid platform to find new designer brands. The show looks even more exciting this year with the presence of more menswear and footwear collections. I have found some nice menswear by YMDH from Hong Kong and I.N.K from Macao. The sandals showcased by SUSIMODA from Italy look very attractive. I am also in touch with a Mainland China exhibitor to explore OEM production for sports shoes. Average orders start at US$2,000 each. The show is getting better to meet my sourcing needs.”
Richard Tsen S K, Founder, 16seventyone Sdn Bhd, Malaysia

“Isetan Mitsukoshi is a major department store operator in Japan. Our Isetan stores and Mitsukoshi stores are located in different cities across the country. I am visiting CENTRESTAGE for the second consecutive year to find more designer brands. At last year’s show, I established business relationship with a Korean womenswear brand. So far, I’ve already found two new brands. Japan’s AMAUD offers some interesting womenswear, like dresses and jackets made of kimono fabric. Hong Kong brand SUN=SEN presents collections with unique styles and decorations. I will negotiate further to conclude the business. Japanese consumers are looking for more and more designer brands. CENTRESTAGE offers a great opportunity to meet new brands from different places. I will certainly visit the show again. It has been a successful trip.”
Terasawa Mari, Editor, Cross Merchandising Division, Isetan Mitsukoshi Ltd., Japan

“Timaginarium is running two fashion stores in Sydney specialising in medium-ranged high fashion collections. This is my first visit to CENTRESTAGE to explore opportunities. I am looking for up-and-coming designers to enrich our offerings. Design concepts and the quality of fabrics are the primary concerns. I have found three potential brands from Korea including VEGAN TIGER, L-AND and ELESS for various womenswear. We will discuss further for possible business cooperation. The bags presented by Italian brand MAJO are very nice and stylish. I also like the design concepts and prints of the collections by Hong Kong brand VVISSI. I look forward to negotiating with them further. This show offers a good opportunity to source new brands and ideas. I hope to see CENTRESTAGE grow further.”
Alexey Oleshov, Director, Timaginarium, Australia
