Exhibitors’ Echo

“China Shenjiu is a leading liquor producer with a long history in Mainland China. We operate five production centres producing high quality baijiu in Luzhou of Sichuan Province with about 4,000 mu of sorghum fields. The bulk of our baijiu products are sold domestically on the mainland and we are actively expanding overseas presence. Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair serves as a perfect place to promote our brand and products. This is our second-year showcase here and we look forward to meeting buyers from different countries for business expansion. At last year’s exhibition, we achieved encouraging sales results and secured a Hong Kong distributor to sell our award-winning baijiu with soy sauce. That really marked a good start for our export growth and we are pleased to exhibit again to capture more opportunities. This is an excellent fair drawing a lot of buyers from everywhere. Hong Kong wine lovers are very interested in our baijiu as well. The demonstrations in Hong Kong had caused a bit of worries prior to exhibition. But we feel everything quite peaceful and normal here. The city is a good place to grow business. This fair offers a great opportunity we don’t want to miss.”
Yang Lei, Vice General Manager, China Shenjiu Group Co., Ltd, Mainland China
“This is our second-year participation in Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair to promote different kinds of wines from Czech Republic. Over 95% of Czech wines are produced in the southern Moravia region bordering Austria. While Europe is our major market, we are expanding sales in Asia including Mainland China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. Seven wineries are showcasing in the Czech pavilion this year with a diversity of wines on offer such as red wine, white wine, rosé and apricot wine. Our wineries always strive to provide special varieties and something different to meet customers’ preferences. We had a successful exhibition at our debut last year. Having acquired its Hong Kong distributor at last year’s fair, J. Stavek Wine is here again exploring more business opportunities. We are all positive about developing new business. This Hong Kong fair is well organised and definitely a gateway to penetrate the Mainland China market in particular. Regarding the demonstrations in Hong Kong, we are not worried at all. News reports often focus on negative things and we believe professional buyers will still come here to do business. We are really impressed by Hong Kong’s international atmosphere and its heritage. We feel very safe being here.”

Buyers’ Commentary

“In business for eight years, Moddy Trading imports a wide range of wines from Italy, Germany, Portugal, South Africa and Argentina for customers in Taiwan. I visit Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair every year to purchase new wines. This year, I am looking for wines from Australia, New Zealand and USA in particular. So far, I’ve got in touch with a family-run winery from Australia for both red wine and white wine. They will send over some wine samples and we expect to conclude a deal after further tasting. Talks are also underway with an Italian exhibitor selling a diversity of wines from different wine-growing regions of Italy. Their wines are of good quality at reasonable prices with attractive packaging design and suit our customers’ demand. I’ve visited an existing German supplier who is exhibiting here to choose from their new white wines. I will place an order worth about €10,000 to €15,000. Things are very well organised at this fair. I really enjoy coming here to meet with so many quality wineries and suppliers. Regarding the protests in Hong Kong, I have no worry at all. My friends in Hong Kong keep me well informed of the situation. The demonstrations are mainly localised in certain areas. It’s generally business as usual here and I feel pretty safe strolling around in the city.”
Wenshine Yang, General Manager, Moddy Trading Co. Ltd., Taiwan
“Dong Zhou Hong Jiu Hong and Jiu Heng Jia are Qingdao-based wine importers and distributors selling a variety of wines mainly from France, Spain, Portugal and Chile. We are affiliated companies specialising in the sale of high-end and middle-to-low-end wines respectively. Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair is an important sourcing platform and we come here every year to find new wines and new suppliers. We’ve already met with over 10 exhibitors this year and shortlisted four new suppliers from Germany, Chile, Portugal and Spain for Riesling wine, red wine, white wine and sparkling wine for different price ranges. The German supplier’s Riesling wine is particularly appealing. We probably will place a small order at first to test customers’ response before making bigger orders. Also, we’ve identified a Hong Kong wine trading company selling quality French wines. We will discuss further about the pricing details to conclude cooperation. This is an excellent fair offering a lot of choices. In fact, we had found about 70% of our existing suppliers through the Hong Kong fair over the years.”
