We are participating in the ICT Expo for the first time to raise our profile. This is a great place to highlight our strength in providing customised digital solutions for various simulation and 3D display applications in different sectors from heritage and tourism to museum, exhibition, training and property development. A smart city has a lot to do with API economy. We’re pleased to exhibit at the Expo to promote our APIX to different business sectors. So far, we’ve got in touch with over 100 representatives from different industries and many of them expressed interest in our platform. Some exhibitors at the Expo have also approached us to explore cooperation. “Campinas City Hall is a government entity responsible for the city's development and management. Cities worldwide are vying for transforming themselves into smart cities. My hometown Campinas and other Brazilian cities like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro serve as the role model for smart cities, so they are keen for further development and upgrade. Last year, our vice mayor came to Hong Kong to visit a local company whose management team advised us to attend the ICT Expo. That explains my maiden presence here where I look for the IoT, AI, blockchain and face recognition technologies, which are part of smart city initiatives. I had a productive day when eight meetings were arranged through the impressive HKTDC's business matching service. All suppliers I met with have exciting products and solutions, such as the cloud data technology from a Hangzhou company and the blockchain technology from an Indian company. Another Hangzhou company with the automatic number-plate recognition technology for motor tracking has a local partner in Brazil. We will explore cooperation opportunities with them. I have also exchanged business cards with speakers at conferences and seminars focused on AI and blockchain technologies. In a nutshell, the ICT Expo is a lineup of interesting technologies.
Carlos A. S. Passos, Science, Technology and Innovation Technical Advisor, Department of Economic Development, Social and Tourism, Campinas City Hall, Brazil

“Asia Soft is a system integrator working with the German giant SAP to provide customised accounting software for big corporations in Kazakhstan. At the ICT Expo, we are looking for technology partners that can offer a scalable, private cloud solution compatible with SAP accounting software, so that we can expand our customisation services to grow our company. This is my first visit to the ICT Expo, which is a truly mind-blowing event. I am greatly impressed with the scale of the expo and the wide range of solutions showcasing at the fairground. The latest technologies like the blockchain give me ideas on what services and products we can offer to our clients. During the morning tour, I was lured to a Canadian exhibitor who has developed a chat-bot solution for the government and banking sectors. An Indian company from Delhi offering AI analysis of customers' inquiries and auto-reply solutions also snatched my attention. The HKTDC's business matching service was helpful that three companies providing smart city solutions were introduced to me. I found the RFID sensors for the IoT, intelligent transportation and cloud-based sensors for lift cables were very inspiring. I also scrolled around to look for new business opportunities from the Belt and Road projects underway in Kazakhstan. Our industry providing IT infrastructure and support indirectly benefits from it. All in all, the ICT Expo is an event for practitioners to stay tuned with the latest trends and technologies.
Maxat Beisembayev, IT Manager, Asia Soft, Kazakhstan

“HKTDC International ICT Expo 2019 is an amazing expo to connect tech ecosystem in this region with a range of global players. There are 3 parts that I’m very impressed:
  1. We meet many promising startups across the globe at media pitching and investor pitching.
  2. This event makes me surprised because there are some booths that we can’t see from other events, for example, SenseTime and Hang Zhou City Brain in Smart City zone.
  3. Not only the exhibition zone but the conference also provides insightful information especially smart city, AI, robotic.
These are the reasons why we would like to recommend everyone who work in tech-related companies to mark your calendar for this event.”

“Lecker Labs has joined the start-up programme called ‘Start-up Express” organised by the HKTDC in collaboration with Our Hong Kong Foundation. As a result, we have been given an opportunity to promote our Yomee yogurt maker in HKTDC’s relevant local and overseas trade promotion events for one year. This is our first time promoting this award-winning yogurt maker to investors and buyers in the Startup Zone at the Spring Electronics Fair. Yomee yogurt maker is fully automatic and has built-in heating, refrigeration, self-cleaning and magnetic stirring features. By adding a “Yomee pod” to the milk of your choice and by selecting the style of yogurt via the Yomee app, a freshly made yogurt will be ready in six hours. We find the Startup Zone very effective because it attracts many buyers who are keen to look for new ideas and new products. Buyer traffic in this zone has been very busy. We have made useful contacts with new buyers from Australia, Europe and South America.
Ryan Cheung, Marketing Manager, Lecker Labs Ltd., Hong Kong (Booth: 3CON-069)

Hear What Investor Says

“BossaNova is a micro-venture capitalist firm in Brazil with 400+ startups in its portfolio. We are interested in the pre-seed stage investment. Most of our investees are Brazilian companies and the rest of them are from the US. Those startups with a proven business model yielding small revenue will be on our radar. As Brazil's startup ecosystem is fast-growing, the country has eight unicorns so far, not to mention a rapid growing number of prospective startups. We are keen to invest more of our capital in startups and set the goal to have at least 1,000 investees in our portfolio by 2020. We also look to overseas investment opportunities in Hong Kong. This explains my first presence at the ICT Expo. On the inaugural day, I attended one startup sharing session titled "Fundraising 101 as a First-time Founder" where I came to know that Hong Kong fundraising market is well-developed and investment phases as a whole are well-structured. After the session, I had exchanges with speakers who are the seed, angel investors and a venture capitalist. A meeting with them is then scheduled, allowing me to further explore investment opportunities in Hong Kong. I also visited the Startup zone where a food-tracking solution from farm to table caught my eyeballs. On the third day, eight meetings with startups are arranged for me via the HKTDC's business matching service. All in all, the scale of the ICT Expo is so huge that I can stay tuned with the next-trends and latest technologies from the world.

“Tuya Smart, a subsidiary of Tuya Global, is exhibiting at the Spring Electronics Fair for the second consecutive year because we are keen to further expand the overseas markets for our smart home appliances and demonstrate our strengths in providing AI solutions that can speed up the development of smart home appliances industry. We are showcasing smart solutions for lighting products, electrical engineering, security products, home appliances, entertainment and sensors. We have met with new buyers from many countries and regions covering Australia, Americas, the Middle East and Asia. Many of them have expressed their intention in co-operating with us. The Spring Electronics Fair organised by the HKTDC is highly effective and provides an excellent showcase for our company, enabling us to connect with many companies that have the intention to use our smart solutions. We will definitely return to the Spring Electronics Fair next year. The establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area helps to encourage the flow of information and resources and enhances the efficiency of overall development. Riding on Hong Kong’s role as an international financial centre, it will accelerate the commercialisation of AI and consumer-related IoT applications.
Alex Yang, Co-founder & COO, Tuya Global Inc., the US (Booth: 1D-A02)

“This is the first time that Alibaba.com has set up a pavilion at the Spring Electronics Fair to promote 10 quality suppliers from our e-commerce platform. They are presenting their latest products such as drones, camera accessories, TV boxes, electric scooters and fingerprint locks in an online-to-offline format. The fair provides a good opportunity for our suppliers to have face-to-face communications with large buyers so as to understand their requirements. Unlike our online platform, buyers can try the real products at our pavilion. Our pavilion attracts a lot of international buyers from Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and the US who make enquiries with our suppliers. As Hong Kong is an important trading hub in the region, we’ll continue to co-operate with the HKTDC and organise the Alibaba.com pavilion.”

“Elektronik Sokagi is a wholesaler in Turkey, selling a wide range of electronics products such as power banks, earphones, headphones, wireless chargers, turntables, Bluetooth speakers and Hi-Fi speakers. I am visiting the Spring Electronics Fair for the first time to find new suppliers. I have already bought samples of Qi wireless chargers, earphones and power banks from around 20 potential suppliers. The order quantity will be 500-2,000 pieces per item. I like the Spring Electronics Fair because there are many manufacturers and I can talk to them directly about my requirements.”
Taygun Yumakli, Sales Manager, Elektronik Sokagi, Turkey

“Half of the Australian population bought consumer goods via ebay last year. The number of visits to our website is around 10 million every month. Electronics products account for more than 50% of sales turnover, with smart phones, home appliances and mobile phone accessories being the best sellers. I have come to the Spring Electronics Fair for the first time to look for mobile phone accessories, Bluetooth speakers, true wireless earphones and power banks which are popular items in our market. Up till now, I have found 15 potential suppliers from Hong Kong and Mainland China. ebay provides an ideal platform for them to promote their brands which are new to the Australian market. I’ll get samples and price lists from these suppliers and recommend them to Australian sellers who may be interested in forming partnerships with them.

We think the main reason for winning the Champion is that we have utilised new technologies to enhance students’ motivation and engagement in learning. To let more people know about the benefits of iSTEM AI Lab, we are also exhibiting at ICT Expo for the second time. At the expo, we have met with many users and stakeholders who have given us valuable feedback and networking opportunities. We can see a huge market potential for iSTEM AI Lab because this is our future classroom. Currently, 30 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong are using iSTEM AI Lab. We expect more schools in Hong Kong to follow suit.”
