Raise a glass in celebration! An elegant cocktail reception kicked off an evening of glamour and prestige, featuring the International Jewellery Design Excellence Award Presentation Ceremony and a prestigious Gala Dinner with the theme of “Dionysus” – the Greek god of wine and grape harvest. The Gala Dinner was officiated by The Hon. Ip Kwok Him, GBM, GBS, JP, Member of the Executive Council of the HKSAR (sixth from the left).

“An excellent design should give us a ‘wow’ effect in terms of beauty, creativity and workmanship. International jewellery designers are all competing for Champion of the Champions in very high standards. In order to be qualified as Champion of the Champions, I think there should be something very extraordinary in terms of design, creativity, workmanship and overall beauty. Held in every two years, the International Jewellery Design Excellence Award offers us a precious opportunity to see winning pieces from all over the world. I think different designers have different cultures and different ways of expressing beauty. Among the entries, there are some very simple designs, but they are so elegantly made. On the other hand, I have seen some beautiful art pieces which are delicately handcrafted. The quality of this year’s entries is just exceptional.”
Lawrence Ma, Chief Judge and Chairman of Fairs Organising Committee of HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show

“In business for 30 years, Dower & Hall is a jewellery retailer and wholesaler in the UK. This is my third time visiting the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show. I like this show very much because March is a good timing for me to source jewellery products for Christmas. In the UK market, wealthy consumers like high-end jewellery, while young people like pearl jewellery which is more affordable and suitable for them to wear at work. At this year’s fair, I am looking for silver jewellery and pearl jewellery. I have found four good suppliers from Mainland China for the supply of sterling silver jewellery and pearl jewellery. I’ll definitely buy from them because they can provide nice quality and good designs at attractive prices. The purchasing amount is around US$20,000 per order.”
Diane Lesley Dower, Owner, Dower & Hall, the United Kingdom

“Hao Xiang Shopping Holdings Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation, operates a TV shopping channel which has an audience of more than 80 million. We produce TV shows to sell consumer products. The length of each TV show is 30 minutes and each second can generate sales turnover of RMB3,000. This is my first-time visit to the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show. I am particularly looking for jadeite jewellery and diamond jewellery which are well-liked by consumers in Jiangsu Province. So far, I have found three to four potential suppliers from Hong Kong, India and Pakistan. I plan to buy RMB3,000-5,000 worth of jewellery products from each new supplier to test the market. The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show offers a comprehensive range of high-quality jewellery products. I’ll come again next year.”
Sun Zhijei, Purchasing Manager, Hao Xiang Shopping Holdings Co Ltd, Mainland China

“Our company is a retailer and wholesaler of diamond jewellery in Turkey. I am looking for diamond jewellery and loose diamonds at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show respectively. This is my first time visiting the two shows. The two shows are huge and amazing. There are a lot of suppliers for me to choose from. I need new designs to attract customers, so I am happy to have seen a lot of good designs for diamond jewellery especially those from Hong Kong suppliers. So far, I have bought US$55,000 worth of diamond jewellery from nine new suppliers from Hong Kong and Thailand and US$60,000 worth of loose diamonds from eight new suppliers. I am going to buy more diamond jewellery at the Jewellery Show.”
Ertuğ Ozyuvalı, General Manager, Oz-Nur Kuyumculuk, Turkey

“Founded in 1944, Foo Hang is one of the first diamond importers in Hong Kong. We take pride in offering rare, high-quality and custom-made diamond jewellery. Currently, diamond jewellery represents 70% of our sales turnover while the rest is diamond wholesale business. This is our second year at the Hall of Extraordinary. This premium zone provides an ideal platform for us to promote our brand – Foo Hang, to present rare and high-priced collections and to attract high-end customers from all over the world. We have met with new buyers from Mainland China, Taiwan and the US. Buyer traffic is higher than last year. We sold more than HK$1 million worth of jewellery on the first day of the show. We expect to close more deals in the next few days of the show”
Terence Wu, Head of Purchasing & Marketing, Foo Hang Jewellery Ltd., Hong Kong
(Booth No.: CEC GH-D16)

“Japan is the partner country for the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show for the first time. We are keen to promote Kobe as the world’s sea water pearl capital and Hong Kong acts as a gateway that can help Kobe’s pearl companies to develop the international markets. Moreover, we want to let more people know that pearl jewellery is eco-friendly. In fact, the cultivation of pearls can absorb carbon dioxide emission, helping to combat global warming. The Japan Pearl Exporters’ Association and the Japan Pearl Promotion Society have set up a Japan Pearl Jewellery Pavilion and Japan Pearl Pavilion at the Jewellery Show and the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show respectively. We have bought together 17 pearl jewellery suppliers and 110 pearl suppliers to showcase their latest offerings. Apart from regular fine pearl jewellery, exhibitors present the rare Tsushima Blue and Tsushima Green Pearls.”
Yoshihiro Utsumi, Executive Director, Japan Pearl Exporters’ Association, Japan (Booth No.: CEC 5F-D11)

“Building upon its 90-year history, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group continues its tradition of heritage, innovation and craftsmanship by introducing ARTRIUM. ARTRIUM, a combination of the words ‘ART’ and ‘ATRIUM’, offers one-of-a-kind jewellery infused with a modern, creative spirit. We are happy to have ARTRIUM’s first international appearance at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and hold the ARTRIUM Fantasia Exhibition to unveil Fantastical Creatures Collection. We are displaying Fantasia’s Masterpiece at the show. With a glistening coat of 24-carat gold, the stylised unicorn features various brushed surface textures, including one of ‘tangled silk’, and a strong chiseled profile appearing both regal and mystical all at once. At the crown, a stunning, naturally formed 106.94-carat fire opal glistens with iridescent colours and dozens of white diamonds. The unicorn becomes not only a work of art, but also a symbol of power, beauty and myth that inspires the rest of the collection. Curators are here to explain the brand and exhibits. The Masterpiece has attracted many buyers to take pictures, helping to promote our ARTRIUM brand.”

Japanese Pearls
At the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, the most popular area is the Japan Pavilion. I am able to see buyers from around the world. Amongst the assortment, Japanese Akoya pearls catches attention due to the high quality, their market price is growing. Unlike the normal white colour that Akoya carries, the brand Kitamura Pearl cultures “Tsushima Blue” in beautiful sea blue colour. These pearls started to gain popularity two years ago. In fact, all of them were sold out within one hour on the first day of the show. This year, pearls in beautiful natural green colour are produced. They are so precious that only one can be obtained among 60,000 cultured pearls. In terms of price, it is more expensive than a luxury car, and it is close to auction prices.

“Based in Guangzhou, we are a leading jewellery brand in Mainland China providing a wide range of natural coloured stones and jewellery items. Our products are sold to local and international customers mainly through third-party e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Tmall and Jingdong. We take advantage of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show to enrich our sourcing every year. The Show has a lot on offer allowing us to find many suitable products. We are trying to acquire more coloured stones such as morganite, aquamarine and tanzanite as well as rubies and emeralds. Conversations are now underway with existing suppliers for different stones with orders estimated at US$1 million to US$2 million. I am still looking around for new suppliers for rubies and emeralds. Our overseas sales is growing satisfactorily and we will sell more jewellery items on Amazon. We will buy more at the fair this time and expect to spend a total of US$4 million.”
Liu Wenhui, CEO, Guangzhou City You Nuo Jewelry Co., Ltd, Mainland China

Our shops also carry gold and diamond jewellery products we source from different parts of the world. The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show is always an excellent fair and everything is well organised. We are visiting the Show this year to source tiger-eye stones, pearls and mother of pearl shells. An order worth US$20,000 was already confirmed with a Hong Kong supplier for natural pearls. We will continue to find more suppliers for other items. At the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, we intend to source some finished jewellery. We expect to buy up to US$200,000 worth of products at the two fairs. Hong Kong is really an exceptional place to source what we need.”

We visit the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show every year and always place big orders for different stones and materials. We’ve just spent about US$20,000 to buy a variety of diamonds, emeralds, Japanese pearls, South Sea pearls and corals. Discussions are underway with other suppliers for more orders. The loose diamonds, gemstones, pearls and corals will be used to create our new jewellery collections. We will spend a total of US$100,000 for sourcing this time. This fair is getting better and better each year with a growing number of exhibitors. For example, there are more Japanese exhibitors with more choices this year. We really love the fair.”
Hansheng Chang, President, City Diamond, Taiwan

“Frou Frou strives to create exquisite jewellery with precious gems and diamonds for customers. We also produce unique jewellery designs according to clients' preferences. Our family is a well-established jeweller in Malaysia with a history of about 70 years. We are operating two jewellery shops in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. This is our second-year visit to the HTKDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show to source diamonds, gemstones and pearls. So far, we have purchased some tourmaline stones and Japanese pearls for several thousand US dollars. We are now looking around at the fairground for new diamond suppliers. The fair has a lot of loose diamonds, gemstones and pearls on offer. It also offers a great chance to network and get new ideas from industry players, which will facilitate our jewellery business development. At the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, we will focus on jewellery tools and machines as well as packaging items.”

Our wedding rings are very popular in the market. The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show is an important annual trade event. It features all kinds of diamonds and precious stones for buyers to choose from. This year, I am sourcing more diamonds, rubies and sapphires. So far, I have purchased about US$5,000 worth loose diamonds from several Indian suppliers. Sapphires from Sri Lanka and rubies from Thailand are also interesting items that I would like to source. I expect to thrash out another US$6,000 to US$10,000 for sapphires and rubies. This fair brings together so many exhibitors from all over the world. It’s a perfect platform to source products and do business.”

“K.D. Diamonds is a manufacturer of fine diamonds and coloured diamonds. We have been in operation for 25 years and our cutting and polishing plants are located in India. At the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show this year, we are showcasing an assortment of fancy coloured diamonds in particular. One of the most expensive items is a 50-carat light yellow stone. A number of buyers from Hong Kong and Mainland China have approached us to make enquiries. Yellow and pink diamonds mostly draw the interest and some buyers from the mainland have already snapped up a selection of smaller-sized diamonds. We are quite positive about the sales result.”
Kevin Shah, Director, K.D. Diamonds (HK) Limited, Hong Kong (Booth No.: AWE 2-T17)

“Established in 1981, Iran Turkis is engaged in the sale of turquoise, jade and phosphosiderite gemstones. Available in various colours and shapes, our products are always in demand and we have established a strong clientele worldwide. The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show is definitely one of the best platforms to generate business. We have met with different buyers from Asia, Europe and South America again this year. About 30% of them are customers from Hong Kong and Mainland China. Some of them have already placed orders. Green turquoise continues to be the top-selling item and phosphosiderite in purple colour also draws interest. Sales response is as strong as last year. The prospect of business looks very optimistic. This fair offers a great chance to showcase our latest designs. We will continue to exhibit here to grow our presence.”
Karim Ostad (left), Owner, Iran Turkis, Iran (Booth No.: AWE 8-G42)

“The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show is a solid platform to promote our natural stones like rubies, sapphires and emeralds. That’s why we participate in the fair every year. It always generates good business sales. Our company designs jewellery collections and has cutting and polishing facilities in Thailand. We are showcasing many fine rubies and sapphires again this year including a 6-carat oval-shaped pigeon blood ruby and a 75-carat sapphire. We’ve met with existing customers and new buyers from various places such as Hong Kong, Mainland China and USA. Buyers from the mainland still demonstrate strong purchasing interest, regardless of the Sino-US trade issue. Rubies and sapphires in the size of 5 to 10 carats are the best-selling items. Large-sized stones have also drawn a lot of enquiries but it usually takes longer time to strike larger deals.”
Ashok Agarwal (right), Managing Director, and Alok Purohit (left), Sales and Marketing Manager, Orchid International, Hong Kong (Booth No.: AWE 1-A25)

“The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show is a magnificent trade event that attracts all kinds of international buyers, especially customers in the Asian market. We have been promoting fine Australian black opals through this platform over the years. The sales response has been very strong this year and even better than last year. We are showcasing a diversity of fine opals including an extremely rare 100-carat black opal with harlequin pattern. Some opal jewellery items like rings, earrings and bracelets are also on offer. Buyers are coming from everywhere and those from Taiwan, Singapore, Mainland China and Hong Kong have emerged as the keenest buyers to acquire our opals. The amount of business generated this year is at least 30% more than last year. We are very satisfied with the feedback. This fair is definitely an ideal place to promote our black opals and find buyers.”

Hear What Media Say

The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the concurrent Hong Kong International Jewellery Show are the most important industry fairs in the spring calendar. Beyond Hong Kong’s many advantages as an international trade centre, the event’s exhibition dates in March are perfectly timed to match the needs of manufacturers, as they begin sourcing for the new business year. It is no surprise that the number of exhibitors at the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show at AsiaWorld-Expo reached a new high. However, figures are not the focus. The most important factors are the Show’s quality and content, and we are pleased to share some key highlights here: A number of German manufacturers said that aquamarine sapphires are currently gaining red-hot popularity. Due to the link between these stones and the British royal family, the global visibility of aquamarine sapphires has risen significantly, along with the number of industry enquiries.
Grace Wu, Chief Editor, Taiwan Jewelry World Magazine, Taiwan

From Australia, All Aussie Opal is exhibiting in Hong Kong for the first time and they are looking forward greatly to this achievement. A major highlight of their exhibit is an opulent and luxurious opal necklace Another first-time participant from Australia, Hopkins Opal has brought more than 2,000 carats of exquisite black opals

The coral pieces exhibited by Chii Lih Coral Co. Ltd. have a total weight of 147.8 grams Fancy Gem House’s 68.7-carat special collection of danburite is considered very rare and a can’t-miss exhibit for industry buyers

A Paradise for Designer-Makers and Gemstone Jewellery Innovators

This year’s HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show is once again an impressive event both in the range and number of exhibitors, and the noticeably high footfall. The impression we got from speaking to exhibitors was that it was busier this year, meaning increased opportunities for buyers and customers to do business.

The UK trade magazine, Jewellery Focus, was in attendance and found the major areas of the show, namely the Hall of Fine Diamonds, Treasures of Nature, and Treasures of Ocean, to be comparably well-supported by exhibitors with a wide range of offerings on display.

Compared with many European shows, this event really is an incredible spectacle. Whilst walking around the fair, it is often hard to believe just how many variants of precious and semi-precious gems you can see under one roof. This is a must-visit event for any jeweller looking to expand their network to suppliers in everything from Myanmar jade to coral to the finest sapphires and diamonds.

It is a jewellery designer’s paradise and an inspiring event for anyone who is passionate about experimenting with materials in jewellery-making.

We would like to highlight Asteria Diamonds (HK) Limited (Booth No.: AWE 2-Q14), which along with being a serious diamond seller with a prestige brand, has embarked on a series of extracurricular activities to complement its luxe offering to clients. The team on the stand, including Chief Brand Officer Jonathan Cohen, revealed an initiative of particular interest that is currently going through approval in the UK.

We congratulate the HKTDC on hosting another successful Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, and wish everyone a prosperous trading experience at this event.”
Michael Northcott, Editor, Jewellery Focus, United Kingdom

“This year, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show selected Japan as the first partner country in the event’s history. Japan has exhibited an array of rare pearls, including the akoya pearl, which can be found at the Japanese Pavilion (Hall 1). A greater number of buyers has flocked to source them during the opening day compared to last year, as industry representatives wanted to secure these top-quality pearls from the first day. Overall, the volume of goods seems to have increased compared to the previous year.”
Lee Cheong Woong, Reporter, Jewelry Journal, Korea

“The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show at AsiaWorld-Expo offers the dazzling product mix of gemstones and diamonds in this exhibit. Across the massive fairground, a colourful and vibrant range of gemstones brings significant value to buyers. Tanzanite stones are highly popular once again, while products such as Swiss topaz offers variety to the product showcase.

Yet, the upcoming season’s markets indicate a rush towards rubies, emeralds and blue sapphires. Companies such as MIF Gems Co. Ltd. and RMC Gems Thai Co. Ltd. are managing their products well, along with other key players at this event. One of the biggest advantages of this exhibition is the variety of stones on display, offering great value for buyers to complete their product check lists.

Irfan of Takat Gems says, “Upcoming trends indicate markets dominated by rubies and blue sapphires, while emeralds remain in evergreen demand at the Show.”
Rajesh Bajaj, Chief Editor, Heera Zhaveraat Magazine

Notice about Buyers’ Right to Claim Detailed and Accurate Invoices/Receipts from Exhibitors

Hong Kong is an important jewellery trading hub. The HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show proudly uphold the same high reputation. Buyers are warmly reminded that in these prestigious trade events, you should expect exhibitors to provide you with invoices/receipts clearly indicating exhibitor’s/seller’s full name and address as well as a detailed description of the goods sold, including but not limited to the date of purchase, quantity, price, fineness of the precious metal, carats of diamonds/gemstones, whether the stones are natural or synthetic, and/or any other written particulars as required under the Laws of Hong Kong, in order to comply with the law and avoid misunderstandings or disputes. Furthermore, exhibitors must ensure that all trade descriptions to be applied to the goods supplied or offered to supply are accurate, and that it must not omit, hide or provide material information in a manner that is unclear, unintelligible, ambiguous or untimely. In case of doubts on the quality of products purchased, buyers are recommended to make good use of the testing and certification services (paid services) offered by exhibiting testing laboratories located in “Testing, Inspection and Certification” zones in Hall 5B-C Concourse in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Hall 8/10 in AsiaWorld-Expo. If you encounter any difficulties in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact the Organiser. We will be glad to assist.
